Sesquicentennial Observance
Quantrill's Attack on Fort Blair
The Baxter Springs Massacre

As one of only two sites in Kansas commemorating the 150th Anniversary of Civil War events, the Baxter Springs Heritage Center and Museum is pleased to present open invitations to our two day event and encampment. The free event will be held on October 5 and 6, 2013, the 150th anniversary of Quantrill's arrival in Baxter Springs and the eventual massacre of almost 100 Union soldiers and sympathizers.

Our celebration will include an encampment at our recreation of Fort Blair. At this encampment, we will provide the necessities and will make parking available for those attending. Alternate camping facilities are available within reasonable distance of the Fort Blair site.

Our event will be preceded by a living history event October 4, at the adjacent museum park for area High School and Middle School students. We invite you to attend this opportunity to instill the heritage of our great nation and the events that made it great in those to govern it after us.

For your information and use, we have attached the following documents:
1. Invitation Letter and Commitment letter for the commemorative event
2. An Encampment Release form  for mailing (required of all participants)
3. An online fillable Encampment Release form
(fillable online and printed for signature and mailing)
4. A listing of available hotel, motel discounts at area lodging facilities.

We request that commitments to attend be transmitted to us no later than March 31, 2013. We need an estimate of the number or participants to facilitate our planning. Later requests will be considered, but we cannot make assurances as to their acceptance.
