Baxter Springs Heritage Center and Museum at 8th and East Avenue should be your first stop to get an over-view of significant area events and places. Our Museum, with six rooms of displays, offers over 20,000 square foot of area history.  So come in and enjoy the many highly interpretive exhibits and displays.     All At No Charge—just a big welcome for all our visitors!



City-run campground, public parks, dog park, disk/frisbee golf and golf course nearby. We are an AVA Walking Club location with a 5k or a 10k walk, as well as a being a Harvest Host.

Our Route 66 Visitor's Center located at 10th & Military in Baxter Springs is open seasonally (May - November). Hours are daily 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. as Volunteer Staff is available.

Holidays that both our locations will be closed for 2022:
New Year's Day - Saturday, January 1st, Easter - Sunday, April 17th, Memorial Day - Sunday, May 29th, Independence Day - Sunday, July 3rd, Labor Day - Sunday, September 3rd, Thanksgiving Day - Thursday, November 24th, Christmas - Saturday, December 24th and Sunday, December 25th, New Year's Day - Sunday, January 1st, 2023.

Our gift shop is open during business hours, or available online through our website.

The first weekend in May is our Cowtown Spring Fling festival, with craft booths, food vendors, singing competition, skits and a BBQ competition!

The first week in August is the annual Saddle Club Rodeo. All ages and entries welcome!

The first weekend in October is our annual Fall Festival, showcasing local vendors and businesses and community events. Starting in 2021 and every other year following, this will include a Civil War encampment, complete with reenactors portraying living history, battle engagements, cannon firing and period vendors. The Encampment is held on the Museum grounds and at our Historic Fort Blair 2 blocks north of the Museum entrance.
