Tri-State Mining Collection
In early 2008 the Picher Mining Field Museum ceased operations as the federal buyout of the town entered full swing.
After much deliberation the Picher Historical Society voted to send the collection to the Baxter Springs Heritage Center and Museum.
The Museum is proud to host this important collection and efforts are currently underway to catalog and preserve the artifacts and documents of the collection.
Most of the documents have been transferred to the custody of the library department at Pittsburg State Univeristy for storage and archiving.
The Museum is housing over 3,000 photographs and over 1,000 mining maps, as well as artifacts and records.
Many of the artifacts and photos are now on display, and efforts are underway to complete the cataloging and processing of the collection.
